EMDR
Targeted EMDR for trauma and PTSD in Vancouver
Purpose and model
I target one outcome: reduction in the intensity of trauma symptoms. Treatment begins with a block of six to ten sessions, reviewed at the midpoint and again at the end. This is ordinarily the whole course. Where the presentation is complex, it is helpful to have a broader care team. A longer course, for example 12 to 15 sessions, is available if indicated, guided by progress review at sessions 6 and 10. End-of-block review determines whether treatment is extended, concluded or referred on.
Suitability
- Single-incident and complex PTSD, and other trauma- and stressor-related presentations.
- Comorbidity and personality-level difficulty are not exclusions.
- Also appropriate where trauma is contributing to another presenting problem, such as persistent pain, chronic illness, time away from work, reduced functioning or slowed recovery, whether or not PTSD is the primary diagnosis.
- I set out what a first block can realistically achieve at assessment, not at the end of treatment.
Role
This service may stand alone or complement an existing care team. Referrers and other treating clinicians keep their broader clinical relationships.
Outcomes
I can provide a brief summary with outcome measures for a key clinician (e.g. family doctor, nurse practitioner, psychiatrist or psychologist) on request.
Fees and enquiries
$235 per 50-minute session.
I confirm fees before treatment begins. Clients pay directly, and I issue a receipt for reimbursement from extended health benefits.
